Why Choose Paws4training?

What to look for in a group class:

1. Ask the trainer whether you can observe a class in session before signing up. Paws4training is always happy to have you drop in to one of our classes to make sure we are the right fit for you.

2. Is class size limited to allow for individual attention? Paws4training limits the class size (5-7 dogs) to get that one on one attention you deserve.

3. Are there separate classes for puppies and adult dogs? Paws4training offers age appropriate classes for puppies in their early developmental stages of socializtion (8-20 weeks), adolescence, and adulthood.

4. Are there different class levels (for example: beginner, intermediate and advanced)? Paws4training offers beginning classes for the new puppy or dog in your life, or the new dog owner with no experience. Our Beyond Basics class is for the dog owner who wants to have a Canine Good Citizen, or the Treibbal class for having fun while teaching new skills.

5. Are training equipment and methods humane? We use equipment that is functional, comfortable and effective while using reward based training techniques.

6. Does the trainer use a variety of methods to meet dogs' individual needs? Our goal is to teach you to evaluate your progress, and have many techniques available for setting your dog up for success.

7. Is proof of vaccination required? We ask for current vaccine records for all levels of classes to insure the the health of your puppy or dog.

8. Are the students, both human and canine, enjoying themselves? We try to provide encouragement, feedback and a stress free training environment for you and your dog.

9. Are lesson handouts available? Is information available on how dogs learn, basic grooming, problem solving, and related topics? Class handouts are provided for all classes with lesson plans and at home practice exercises between sessions.

Our goal is to create the best experience for you and your dog in class. We teach you how to interact with your dog in a variety of situations. We help you learn more about training, pet communication, dog care, and how to have fun with your adolescent or adult dog. We also teach you how to work with distractions and how to shape your dog's behavior through the use of positive reinforcement, play, and other fun training techniques.

Do you find yourself walking your dog at 4 AM because he lunges, barks and growls at dogs or people? Do you constantly scan the horizon and hope you are alone in the neighborhood?

Our Reactive Dog Class teaches:

  • You skills to calm your dog

  • Redirect his focus and to behave in a more relaxed manner. And, you’ll be more relaxed too!

  • Walks will be safer, more enjoyable and at a civilized hour!

  • Individual attention for you and your dog

We use the most current techniques in the field when working with reactivity and fear related leash problems. These techniques teach your dog to offer new and more appropriate behaviors to replace barking, lunging, and snapping.

This class is not for dogs with history of biting.

"The reactive dog class was fantastic in helping me and my six-year-old black lab, Sadie, deal with other dogs on walks. When I first adopted Sadie about six months ago, she was aggressive towards other dogs we would encounter (pulling/lunging against the leash, growling, barking) and I had to struggle to control her. In the reactive dog class, I learned several exercises to improve my dog's focus on walks and help her relax in the presence of other dogs. Being able to practice walking and relaxing near another dog in a calm, controlled setting helped to significantly improve both mine and my dog's confidence. Sadie and I now enjoy weekend walks at Green lake park without any problems from other dogs, and her behavior around other aggressive dogs is now at a very controllable level. Susan is a terrific instructor (Sadie loves her!) and is always sure to end class on a successful note. I would highly recommend this class to anyone with a reactive dog!"
